The Tatra 31 was the successor to the car type 17 that the Tatra factory in Nesselsdorf brought out in 1926 .

The vehicle had a water-cooled six-cylinder OHC in-line engine with a displacement of 2310 cm³ and an output of 40–45 hp (29–33 kW). The maximum achievable speed of the 1350 kg car was 115 km / h. There were different 4-seater, mostly sporty, open bodies. Around 500 vehicles were built by 1930.

After that, vehicles were manufactured with an engine that was enlarged to 2309 cm³ and developed 40 hp (29 kW).

The successor to the Tatra 31 was the Type 70 from 1931 .
