The Tatra 700 is a passenger car model of the upper class of the Czech manufacturer Tatra . The vehicle with an air-cooled eight-cylinder rear engine was manufactured from April 1996 to 1999 as the successor to the 613-4 and was the last passenger car model from Tatra.

history

Development of the Tatra 700 began as early as 1992. Tim Bishop engineering company in Great Britain was to adapt the model 613-4 Mi to the latest emission regulations in the USA and Europe. The appearance of the car should also be revised. In 1995 Geoff Wardle - employed at the European Art Center of Design in Switzerland - dealt with the front and rear of the car. Design elements from earlier models of the brand were cited. The Czech government, which in the meantime got its company cars from Mercedes-Benz , promised to order 100 copies of the new Tatra if it should meet modern requirements. The new body was developed in cooperation with Tatra and presented to government representatives in December 1995. The first series copies were ready in April 1996, but the Czech government never kept its promise.

In addition to the hatchback sedan, there was also a notchback version and the 3.5-liter engine was accompanied by a 4.4-liter rear engine with 294 kW (400 hp) and a top speed of 250 km / h. Both units had intake manifold injection and a three-way catalytic converter . Nevertheless, the sales targets could not be achieved, and so Tatra gave up car construction when this model was discontinued in 1999. The total production of the Tatra 700 only reached about 65 vehicles. There is also a two-door version called the Tatra 700 GT. This was created by converting a damaged Tatra 613.
