Literary template and staff

With The King , three classics by William Shakespeare are to be adapted. Thus, the film elements from the pieces to Henry IV. , The second part and Heinrich V. be inspired. The focus is on the final part of Shakespeare's "Lancaster" series, written in 1599 . The focus is on Prince Henry , who has actually fallen from grace , who inherits the English crown in turbulent times while a fierce war rages between England and France and nobody believes that he could be the right man to bring peace. The film is supposed to use the storylines and characters from Shakespeare's plays, but to free itself from them linguistically and use an understandable slang.

Directed by David Michôd , who wrote the screenplay for the film together with Joel Edgerton , who also stood in front of the camera as Falstaff. Edgerton, who has had the best connection to Netflix since Bright , brought the project to the streaming service . He also produced the film. Edgerton compared The King to Game of Thrones and said he wanted a contemporary film with contemporary dialogue.
