Vitus
Veit is a male given name or family name in German-speaking countries. It is about the Germanization of the Latin Vitus .
Origin and meaning of the name
The name spread widely in the Middle Ages in memory of Saint Vitus , who lived as a pious man in the 3rd and 4th centuries and died a martyr. The name origin is uncertain, but may be derived from the Thracian of Bitus what "from Bithynia means". It is also believed that the name is derived from the Old High German vidu or vitu (= "wood", "forest") or that it goes back to the Middle Latin name Vitus with the possible meaning "willing". Because of the veneration of St. Vitus, the name was already widespread in the Middle Ages.
The Latin word (Latin: vita = "life") is translated as "full of life" or "the living one" or "dear little one". Vitus is one of the fourteen emergency helpers .
