The Allgäu hiking trilogy is a network of long-distance hiking trails , which leads through the various landscapes of the Allgäu over 876 km . There is no set start and finish point, but three main routes, each of which is divided into various stages and linked by ladders and can thus be put together individually by the hiker.

course

The Allgäu hiking trilogy leads through the Allgäu and the Tannheimer Tal . There are a total of 53 stages, with different variants or routes available for some stages. The length of the stages is between eight and 26 kilometers. The long-distance hiking trail network of the hiking trilogy leads over three altitudes.

The Allgäu hiking trilogy comprises three main routes:

  • Meadow Walker Route
  • Water strider route
  • Sky Striker Route

All three routes represent a landscape level / altitude and connect the 33 locations along the hiking trilogy. The transitions between the routes are fluid. In the sections in which the routes run parallel, the meadow walker route becomes the meadow walker-water strider route and the water strider route becomes the water strider-sky-striker route. There are also connecting paths, the so-called trilogy ladders, which connect a change between the routes and thus the three routes to a network of paths.

The trail network of the hiking trilogy is signposted with the so-called Steinmännle sign, which, depending on the route, is green (meadow walkers), blue (water striders) or red (sky climbers). In the area where the routes intersect (meadow walker-water strider and water strider-sky-striker) the signet is two-colored (green-blue and blue-red).

The routes each have different levels of difficulty, but the individual stages are designed in such a way that hikers with average physical fitness can do them well in one day. Luggage transport is also offered for the Wanderer hiking trilogy.

particularities

In both the hiking trilogy and the Allgäu cycle tour, the Allgäu is divided into different adventure rooms, the so-called trilogy rooms. While hiking, not only the nature and landscape of the Allgäu, but also the culture and history of the region should be brought to life for the hiker with the help of heroes and landmarks. On the routes and stages of the hiking trilogy, the story of personalities who shaped the Allgäu, such as King Ludwig II, Sebastian Kneipp or Carl Hirnbein, is told. But also scenic features such as moors or rivers can represent their respective trilogy room as “heroes”.

The places along the traveling trilogy are assigned special roles. The so-called portal locations form the entrance to the respective trilogy rooms. The story of the respective trilogy room is told in the ten portal locations of the hiking trilogy. In each of the 13 stage locations, a different facet of this history of the trilogy room is illuminated, while a further ten themed locations each pick out and symbolize a very special story, legend or historical person, such as the Holy Crescentia or Carl Hirnbein .

At the beginning or end of a stage of a partner location there is a so-called start or welcome area. The routes always lead from place to place or to stage points where, for example, DAV huts are available for overnight stays.

The trilogy rooms and locations are equipped with special furniture that symbolizes the stories of the rooms. For example, a bench in the form of a chaise longue shows the hiker that he is in the “Schlosspark” trilogy room. A bench in the form of a hip bath symbolizes the trilogy room "Glückswege", in which Pastor Sebastian Kneipp worked.

The Himmelsstürmer Route is the most demanding route of the hiking trilogy through its course through the mountainous landscapes of the Allgäu Alps. Since this route overcomes a lot of altitude, the daily stages are shorter. Hikers on this route should have alpine experience and be sure-footed and free from giddiness.
