In the World Cup season 1983/84 of the Nordic Combined , World Cup races in the Nordic Combined were held for the first time. The season began on December 17, 1983 in Seefeld ( Austria ) and ended on March 24, 1984 in Štrbské Pleso (today's Slovakia ). During the season of 8 who found until February 19, 1984 Winter Olympic Games of Sarajevo held; the competition there was also part of the World Cup.
The season consisted of a total of eight individual competitions, all of which were decided according to the Gundersen method . The first World Cup in Seefeld then had two winners: the German Uwe Dotzauer and the American Kerry Lynch . For these two, however, this was the only World Cup success in their careers. In addition, the German Thomas Müller , who won the World Cups in Schonach and Lahti , was also able to convince. With his third place in Štrbské Pleso , Klaus Sulzenbacher took Austria's first podium . There was also a team competition and the World Team Championship in Rovaniemi ; both counted towards the nations ranking of the World Cup.
World Cup points were given to the 15 best placed participants in a competition according to the following point mode:

Only the six best results during the World Cup season were counted. However, this only led to strike points in one athlete.

If a country started with several relays, only the best placed was rated. Norway won the Nations Cup ahead of the Soviet Union and the Federal Republic of Germany.
The first overall World Cup winner in Nordic combined was the Norwegian Tom Sandberg ahead of Uwe Dotzauer and Geir Andersen .
