history
For a long time the place was an Austrian border town to neighboring Bavaria. For this reason it was raised to the market by Emperor Maximilian I in 1515 . Briefly Bavarian during the Napoleonic Wars , it has been part of Upper Austria since 1814.
After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.
Riedau experienced a particular boom in the 1960s with the settlement of the Leitz company. The construction of the leisure center, the creation of affordable building sites and other infrastructure measures were the result. A school center with a focus on IT was built. The Austria House for the Winter Olympics in Japan was rebuilt in the center of Riedau and has since housed the Lignorama Wood and Tool Museum .
In the last few years the Pramtalsaal has been converted into an attractive event center, the school has been completely renovated, and supervised living has been created. Until the end of 2002, the community belonged to the Raab judicial district , after its dissolution it was assigned to the Schärding judicial district.
