The Chemnitz district of Wittgensdorf [ ˈvɪtʃɛnsˌ- ], which was incorporated in 1999, is also a town. This district, to which the Murschnitz district still belongs, is bordered by the districts of Glösa-Draisdorf , Borna-Heinersdorf and Röhrsdorf as well as the town of Burgstädt with the district of Herrenhaide , the communities of Lichtenau with the district of Auerswalde , Taura-Köthensdorf and Hartmannsdorf with the district of Kühnhaide . The Chemnitz River forms the eastern border of Wittgensdorf. The highest point is the 346 m high Steinberg . The summer pool on Bahrstrasse is particularly popular with young people from Chemnitz.

history

Protestant Church Chemnitz-Wittgensdorf

The village, founded by Frankish settlers around 1150, was first mentioned in a document in 1404. This concerned the awarding of the chapel "Our dear women" to Markersdorf near Penig with all rights to Thilo Haßen by Albrecht, Burgrave of Leisnig and Count Wirth, his son. Read here:

"[...] Er Johannes, Pharrer zu Wittichendorf, ... as a witness of the awarding of the chapel" Our dear women "in Markersdorf to Thilo Haßen."

Agriculture and handicrafts were the main occupations. With the beginning of industrialization in the 19th century, the resident manor of the Chemnitz entrepreneurial family Schütz lost its influence on the village in 1859. The sudden increase in the population and the resulting high number of children caused the community to build a new school in 1866 and another, even larger, school in 1888/89. The Chemnitz-Leipzig railway line (with two stations) and the Chemnitz Valley Railway favored good industrial development.

Murschnitz

The northern Wittgensdorf district of Murschnitz is presumably only a remnant of a larger settlement from the 13th century. A number of homesteads were attached to the old town center. The place reached from the lower Holzbach to the forest area Herrenhaide .

traffic

Wittgensdorf can be reached via the federal highways 95 and 107 , which intersect the town in the east and west. These two streets are connected to the Upper and Lower Main Street . Via the B 107 you reach the A 4 after about 2 km ; on the other hand, the Röhrsdorf exit of the A 72 is about 2 km away from the western end of the district. Wittgensdorf is connected to the CVAG bus network with lines 21, 46, 96 and the Chemnitz-Bahn line C13. In addition, the regional bus route 637 touches the Unterdorf, the route 658 drives both Oberdorf and Unterdorf.

The Neukieritzsch – Chemnitz railway line crosses Obere Hauptstrasse at no level and first passes the western foothills of the village, then turns east and crosses Chemnitzer Strasse south of the town center at the same level. At the station Wittgensdorf ob Bf and at breakpoint Wittgensdorf middle holding dual-system trains the City-Bahn Chemnitz . Line C13 of the Chemnitz model enables connections from both Wittgensdorf stations to Burgstädt, Chemnitz main station and Chemnitz city center without having to change trains . In 2017, work began on relocating the platforms at the upper station. The closest long-distance train station is Leipzig Hauptbahnhof .

Passenger traffic on the railway line to Wechselburg (and on to Rochlitz) ( Chemnitztalbahn ), which runs through the former Wittgensdorf railway station in the east of the town , has been suspended since 1998, and freight traffic since the end of 1999. On the railway line to Limbach-Oberfrohna, there has also been no travel traffic since 2000, only goods traffic to a tank farm in Hartmannsdorf .
