UCI Mountain Bike World Championships
The first professional UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships took place in Durango (USA) in 1990. It is organized by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and consisted only of the cross country (XC) and downhill (DH) events. In recent years, other mountain bike racing events, such as dual slalom (DS), 4-cross (4X) and trials, have been added. The winner of each event has the right to wear the rainbow jersey for a full year in future events of the same discipline.
Unlike other UCI-sanctioned races, the World Championships is organized by nationality, not by commercial teams. The race is usually held towards the end of the season.
