Órgiva is a municipality in the Alpujarras in the province of Granada in Spain . The centrally located, bustling place is the gateway to the Alpujarras for tourists and is a regional administrative seat. A larger community of dropouts and hippies from England, Germany and other northern European countries also lives in the village.

location

Órgiva lies at an altitude of 450 m on the edge of the Guadalfeo Valley and is surrounded by the towns of Cáñar , Carataunas , Pampaneira and Lanjarón .

In 1569 the place was besieged unsuccessfully by rebellious moriscos .
