Salobreña is a Spanish city in the province of Granada .

geography

The city is located on a rock above the Costa Tropical , a section of the Costa del Sol in the province of Granada near the Río Guadalfeo.

climate

The climate is Mediterranean according to the coastal area (climate type Csa according to the Köppen and Geiger classification ).

Due to the protective proximity to the Sierra Nevada , the climate is also much milder in winter than in the rest of the Costa del Sol . The mean annual temperature is 17 ° C; an average of 24 ° C is reached in summer and 12 ° C in winter. The annual amount of rain is around 500 millimeters.

economy

The most important industry in the area is agriculture , as the proximity to the Sierra Nevada means that there is sufficient melt water even in summer . Tourism comes in second place .

Attractions

Salobreña Castle

The town center, which is located below the beautiful Moorish castle , is still typical of old Andalusia. The old town is characterized by narrow streets and old fishermen's houses typical of Andalusia. The modern new town below the rock is home to numerous pubs and restaurants and the shady Parque de la Fuente .

Salobreña used to be surrounded by vast sugar cane fields . These have been and are being replaced by numerous new hotels and residential complexes, and a golf course is still to be built.

history

The fortress, which can be found on the top of the rock, served as the summer residence of the Granada court during the Moorish rule. After the Christian rulers came to power, the fortress was used as a prison for the mulas who were arrested during the conquest of Granada. The fortress lost its strategic importance over time. Today's restored remains only give a vague picture of the former grace.
