Lanjarón is a town in the Alpujarras in the province of Granada in the autonomous region of Andalusia in Spain . Lanjarón's importance is mainly due to its water sources. It is the bottling place of the "Lanjarón" mineral water, which is widespread and most advertised throughout Spain . Due to the local iron-rich medicinal water springs, Lanjarón is a popular spa town with appropriate spa facilities.
location
Lanjarón is located east of the Lecrin Valley on the road to Órgiva .
history
On March 8, 1500, the site was the scene of cruel battles between the Spanish king and the local Moriscos . The Moorish castle was destroyed by the Spanish artillery. Almost all of the Muslim population trapped in the mosque died when the mosque was blown up. On December 28, 1568 the Christian church went up in flames in the course of the Morisk uprising in the Alpujarras.
The discovery of various mineral medicinal springs since 1765 formed the basis for the development of the place into the most important Andalusian medicinal bath.
Economy and Infrastructure
Lanjarón has seen relatively large growth in recent years as it is the gateway to the Alpujarras from Granada. A motorway connection, the construction of several wind power plants and the expansion of the Lanjarón bottling plants are evidence of this. At the same time, however, the consequences of negative impacts on the environment are also increasing. For example, the expansion of industrial water production is endangering springs that supply the surrounding villages and valleys with drinking water. One expression of the protests in the local population is the recent naming of the water brand: "Ladrón" (in German "thief"). There are also plans to build a cable car in town to benefit from the tourism in the Sierra Nevada.
Attractions

Culture and events
Every year in June there is the regionally popular and notorious day of the “ Fiesta del Agua y del Jamón”, on the one hand the local ham is distributed and on the other hand “water fights” with all tangible objects, from normal buckets to fire hoses rich, be carried out. The latter symbolizes the abundance of water that the place has always had.
