Santa Cruz del Comercio

Santa Cruz del Comercio (or Santa Cruz for short ) is a Spanish town and municipality in the province of Granada in the autonomous community of Andalusia .

location

It is located in the Comarca Alhama and is 51 km from the capital, Granada . The municipality is an enclave of Alhama de Granada . In 2019 the community had 528 inhabitants. The place is traversed by the Río Alhama .

The municipality consists of the districts Santa Cruz del Comercio and Valenzuela, which is also called Seco de Lucena .

history

Until 1884 the city was called " Santa Cruz de Alhama ". The name was changed to del Comercio as a thank you for the help of the merchants from Madrid in rebuilding the province of Granada, especially the region around Alhama, after the earthquake.
