Las Gabias is a municipality in the central southern part of the Vega de Granada ( Granada province ), about eight kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Granada in the Spanish region of Andalusia . The parish borders the parishes of Vegas del Genil , Cúllar Vega , Churriana de la Vega , Alhendín , La Malahá , Chimeneas, and Santa Fe .

Las Gabias consists of the districts Gabia la Grande and Gabia Chica , which was combined with the district of Hijar (Las Gabias) in 1973 .

history

The municipality has been inhabited for a long time. A baptismal font from the early Christian period was found in the municipality, as was the remains of a Roman olive press. A fortress tower from Moorish times was the defensive point of the city of Granada against the Christian advance from Alhama de Granada .

economy

The local economy is based on agriculture and brick production, in addition Las Gabias is a large dormitory city and is located within the agglomeration of Granada .

The first complete golf course in the province of Granada and the Juan Carlos I shooting range were built in Las Gabias .

As with the other communities in the Vega de Granada , excessive building has made the area's rural character and traditional forms of cultivation disappear.
