Tele-democracy

Jun in the winter of 2013.

Jun is known as a testing ground for digital democracy. On December 27, 1999, the community proclaimed access to the Internet a civil right, which attracted international press attention. The world's first interactive municipal election was held here on June 28, 2001, which is why the then President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi , described Jun as the birthplace of teledemocracy. In Jun, citizens use Twitter to communicate with the administration; During the first two years the company Twitter had no explicit knowledge of the project, now Twitter is very interested in learning from the practical use of their service in the context of digital democracy. Twitter is currently also supporting the analysis of Jun's management solution. As in the less digitally developed world outside of Jun, social networks have their own problems here too. As Jun Mayor Rodríguez Salas (aka “El Alcalde Digital”, the digital mayor) says, “In the real world, one in 43 people has a problem with absolutely everything. There are twice as many on Twitter. “Most of the citizens of Jun are positive about the solution and are also proud to be part of a futuristic experiment (or everyday life).

Work is currently underway on site on the “M-Administración” project, which aims to promote the use of social networks and electronic voting for interaction between administration / government and citizens.
