Pinos Genil is a municipality and a village in the province of Granada in southern Spain .

It is only a few kilometers from the provincial capital Granada and can be reached from there via the town of Cenes de la Vega . It is located on the road that goes up to the Sierra Nevada and between the Genil and Aguas Blancas rivers .

The establishment took place in the period before the Arab rule in Spain, even if it was the Arabs who contributed a large part to the agricultural use.

Immediately after the conquest of Granada in 1492 by the Catholic Kings ( Los Reyes Católicos ) in the course of the Reconquista , Columbus traveled through Pinos Genil. While crossing the bridge over the Genil, he received the news that Queen Isabel accepted his terms for the sea voyage to India .

In the 17th century , Enríquez de Jorquera described Pinos Genil as a place of hunting, winter fruit and silk farming.

Today the village consists of many second homes, which can be explained by its close proximity to the city of Granada.
