The 1st foot artillery regiment "vacant Bothmer" was an association of the foot artillery brigade of the Bavarian Army .

history

The regiment was formed on January 1, 1873 in Ingolstadt with a strength of two battalions of four companies through the withdrawal of the fortress detachments from the 1st and 3rd field artillery regiments . On December 11, 1908, the companies were renamed Batteries .

The first and only regiment owner from July 5, 1875, was the later General of the Infantry Friedrich von Bothmer , whose name the regiment had as an addition. After his death on July 29, 1886, it was named 1st Foot Artillery Regiment "vacant Bothmer" .

Last peacetime locations of the regiment were Neu-Ulm (lst Battalion) and Munich (II. Battalion).

First World War

At the beginning of the First World War , the regiment was split up: The 2nd Battalion was assigned to the 1st Army Corps of the 6th Army , the 1st Battalion to the 2nd Army Corps of the 6th Army as corps artillery.

The 2nd battalion took part in the battles near Verdun , Artois , Monchy-Cambrai / Bapaume and Arras .

Whereabouts

After the end of the war , the remnants of the regiment were demobilized and finally disbanded in February 1919.

The tradition took over in the Reichswehr by decree of the Chief of the Army Command General of the Infantry Hans von Seeckt from August 24th 1921 the 5th battery of the 7th (Bavarian) Artillery Regiment in Munich. In the Wehrmacht , the tradition was continued by the 1st Division of Artillery Regiment 43 in Landshut .
