The 1945/46 season was the tenth regular season of the American Hockey League (AHL). During the regular season, the eight teams in the league played 62 games each. The six best teams in the AHL then played in a play-off round for the Calder Cup .

Calder Cup playoffs

The six best teams in the American Hockey League qualified for the play-offs. In the first play-off round, the first of the Eastern Division played against the first of the Western Division, the second of the Eastern Division against the second of the Western Division, and the third of the Eastern Division against the third of the Western Division. The two winners from the duels between the teams in places two and three then met in the second round, while the winner from the duel between the two division winners was automatically qualified for the final by a bye . The first two play-off rounds took place in the best-of-three mode, with the two division winners playing for the finals in the best-of-seven mode. The final itself was also played in best-of-seven mode.
