Agon-Coutainville is a commune with 2,791 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Manche department in the region of Normandy .

geography

Agon-Coutainville is located on the Atlantic coast on the Cotentin peninsula , around 10 kilometers west of Coutances . Important districts are Agon and Coutainville . Neighboring towns are Blainville-sur-Mer , Saint-Malo-de-la-Lande and Tourville-sur-Sienne . The stretch of coast in which the place is located is also called Côte des Havres . South of the village is the Pointe d'Agon nature reserve , the southern municipal boundary forms the estuary of the river Sienne .

history

The history of the villages of Agon and Coutainville goes back to the Middle Ages . In the Agon district at that time there was a castle that was used to protect the port of Regnéville .

The manor of Coutainville was built around the 15th century.

The community has had its current name since 1965 when it was renamed from Agon to Agon-Coutainville .
