The Lozon and the Venloue flow in the municipality. Hauteville-la-Guichard is 13 kilometers northeast of Coutances and 16 kilometers west of Saint-Lô in the Bocage .

Hauteville-la-Guichard is home to the Norman kings of Sicily . The sons of Tancrèdes de Hauteville , who was Seigneur of Hauteville-la-Guichard, moved to southern Italy in the 11th century to found a kingdom there.
