Montcuit is a French municipality with 185 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Coutances and the canton of Agon-Coutainville .

geography

The municipality is located on the Cotentin peninsula , around twelve kilometers northeast of Coutances . Neighboring municipalities are Saint-Sauveur-Villages in the west, Saint-Michel-de-la-Pierre in the northwest, Le Mesnilbus in the north, Hauteville-la-Guichard in the east, Le Lorey in the southeast and Camprond in the southwest.

The municipality borders in the north on the Regional Nature Park Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin and is drained from the Vanloue river , which is still a small stream here, to the northeast to the Lozon . In terms of transport, Montcuit is developed through the D52 and D53 département roads.

Origin of name

Mont- is derived from the Latin wikt: mons , mountain, mountain; -cuit seems to refer to slash and burn .
