The Alfa 147 is a compact class passenger car from the Italian automobile brand Alfa Romeo , which was produced from autumn 2000 to mid-2010.

General

The 147 is based on the modified platform of the mid-range model Alfa 156 presented in 1997 , whose chassis technology was also largely adopted. The body design was created by Andreas Zapatinas under the head of design Walter Maria de Silva .

history

The Alfa 147 was presented at the Turin Motor Show in 2000 and in November 2000 as a three-door model with four-valve gasoline engines from the Twin Spark range with 77, 88 or 110 kW (105, 120 or 150 hp) and 1.9 liters - JTD -Turbodiesel- direct injection 85 kW (116 HP) introduced.

The five-door variant followed in May 2001. At the same time, the diesel engines were given a turbocharger with adjustable guide vanes . As with the next larger Alfa 156, the rear door handles are hidden in the roof bars.

At the end of 2002, modern multijet diesel with four-valve technology and 103 kW (140 hp) and in mid-2003 also with two-valve technology and 74 kW (100 hp) were introduced.

In February 2003, the range was supplemented by the top model 147 GTA presented at the Paris Motor Show in 2002  . It has a V6-cylinder engine with 3.2 l displacement and 184 kW (250 PS), which was also installed in the 156  GTA and the GT 3.2. The body of the 147  GTA differs from the other models in that it has a different front and rear bumper, wider fenders and a spoiler lip on the roof. The GTA was reserved for the first series of the 147 series, with the second series the 1.9 JTD common rail diesel engine with 125 kW (170 hp) being the most powerful engine.

In March 2004 the model ti (Turismo Internationale) followed with new sports equipment.

Facelift

The revised Alfa 147 model had its world premiere at the Mondial de l'Automobile 2004 in Paris . Among other things, the front apron and the rear lights as well as the cockpit were changed. Some equipment details have also been modified and new options such as Alfatex seat covers and a more powerful diesel engine , the 1.9 JTD 16V Multijet with 110 kW (150 PS), have been introduced.

In October 2005 the special model “Limited TI” (for “Turismo Internazionale”) 1.6 Twin-Spark with an 88 kW (120 PS) petrol engine was released . This model is equipped with a Bose sound system with amplifier and subwoofer and a CD car radio from Blaupunkt with MP3 playback function. In addition, the interior and exterior paintwork are black. The standard equipment also includes leather steering wheel and gear knob, aluminum door sill strips with inscription, 17-inch light alloy wheels with 215/45 tires, sports suspension, spoiler lip on the roof and fog lights.

A second facelift followed in autumn 2006 (chrome grille , new headlights, different front apron, upgraded standard equipment, standard particle filter for all diesels). In addition, the sporty model Q2 was presented, with a front-axle limited-slip differential and sports equipment (17-inch wheels, various modifications to the body and in the interior, lowered body ), which was initially only available in conjunction with the 110 kW (150 PS ) Diesel engine was available.

In autumn 2008, the three-door variant dropped out of the model range, since the smaller MiTo has since taken over the role of the three-door .

In May 2010, production of the 147 with five doors was also stopped, as the successor appeared as Giulietta in mid-June 2010 .

Equipment variants

The Alfa 147 was available in the equipment variants Impression (basic version), Progression (comfort version) and Distinctive (luxury version). However, not every engine could be combined with every equipment variant. The semi-automatic Selespeed transmission was optionally available for the 2.0 TS model and the 3.2 GTA .

Motorsport

Starting with the 2002 season, the Alfa 147 was used in one-make cup races. All vehicles in this Alfa 147 Cup had the four-cylinder diesel engine 1.9 JTD, which in the racing version developed 118 kW (160 hp). The engine and transmission were sealed, the control units were collected before the race and given out to the participants by lottery. Young drivers were able to demonstrate their driving talent under the same technical conditions. In addition, there was a changing VIP driver such as Christina Surer or Helmut Zerlett . In 2004 the Alfa 147 Cup was held for the last time.
