Angelburg is a municipality in the west of the Marburg-Biedenkopf district in north-western Central Hesse .
geography
Geographical location
The municipality is located about 12 km south of Biedenkopf in the Gansbachtal north of the Scheldt forest , the northern end of which is formed by the Angelburg mountain (609 m above sea level ).
Neighboring communities
The municipality is surrounded in the north and east by the area of the municipality of Steffenberg . The area of the municipality of Bad Endbach also borders to the east with its district of Bottenhorn. In the south, the municipality joins the municipality of Siegbach , and in the west against the municipality of Eschenburg (both in the Lahn-Dill district ).

history
On April 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the two formerly independent communities Frechenhausen and Lixfeld were merged to form the new community Angelburg. On July 1, 1974, by state law Angelburg with patrons to advanced large village Angelburg together . On October 11, 2015, a vote took place on a community merger of Angelburg and Steffenberg. A majority of the Angelburgers were in favor of a merger, while the proposal on Steffenberger's side was rejected.
politics
The community is a member of the inter-municipal association Lahn-Dill-Bergland and many other municipal special-purpose associations and associations. The most important association for the future development of the municipality is the association for inter-municipal cooperation in the hinterland , which includes all cities and municipalities in the Hessian hinterland and promotes joint development with the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Bad Laasphe .
On October 11, 2015, a vote took place on a community merger of Angelburg and Steffenberg. A narrow majority of the Angelburgers (51.7%) spoke out in favor of the merger, whereas the population of Steffenberg also just voted (52.7%) against the merger.

In the election on March 27, 2011, Thomas Beck (SPD), Reiner Haffer and Heiko Valentin (both independent) ran. None of the candidates could achieve an absolute majority, so that on April 10, 2011 there was a runoff election. There Thomas Beck prevailed with 55.4% against Reiner Haffer (44.6%).
Thomas Beck replaced Mayor Norbert Mai, who had been in office until then, on June 15, 2011 after 18 years in office.

The municipal coat of arms shows in the divided shield above, in blue, the Hessian lion divided by silver (white) and red; below three red stars in silver.
The lion refers to the early Hessian sovereignty, the three stars stand for the three districts of the municipality.
Culture and sights
The Angelburg television tower is 171 meters high . It is noteworthy that the Angelburg is not on the Angelburg boundary, but belongs to the neighboring municipality of Eschenburg .
traffic
The Lixfeld , Frechenhausen and Gönnern stops were on the Schelden Valley Railway . This is shut down.

- Heinrich Teutsch "Erzvater" (1889–1967), machine master, autodidact, mineralogist, operator of the former ore mine in Gönnern (lead gloss) in one-man operation.
- Karl Schmidt (1903–1971), former at the Schelderhütte , social democrat and trade unionist, anti-fascist, first social democratic mayor in Gönnern from 1946–1952. Schmidt was previously appointed mayor of the American military administration in September 1945.
