Angelburg is a municipality in the west of the Marburg-Biedenkopf district in north-western Central Hesse .

Geographical location

The municipality is located about 12 km south of Biedenkopf in the Gansbachtal north of the Scheldt forest , the northern end of which is formed by the Angelburg mountain (609 m above sea level ).

Neighboring communities

The municipality is surrounded in the north and east by the area of ​​the municipality of Steffenberg . The area of ​​the municipality of Bad Endbach also borders to the east with its district of Bottenhorn. In the south, the municipality joins the municipality of Siegbach , and in the west against the municipality of Eschenburg (both in the Lahn-Dill district ).

On April 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the two formerly independent communities Frechenhausen and Lixfeld were merged to form the new community Angelburg. On July 1, 1974, by state law Angelburg with patrons to advanced large village Angelburg together . On October 11, 2015, a vote took place on a community merger of Angelburg and Steffenberg. A majority of the Angelburgers were in favor of a merger, while the proposal on Steffenberger's side was rejected.

In the election on March 27, 2011, Thomas Beck (SPD), Reiner Haffer and Heiko Valentin (both independent) ran. None of the candidates could achieve an absolute majority, so that on April 10, 2011 there was a runoff election. There Thomas Beck prevailed with 55.4% against Reiner Haffer (44.6%).
