The Asociación Atlética Argentinos Juniors - often called Argentinos for short - is an Argentine football club from the La Paternal district in Buenos Aires . The association was founded in 1904 in an anarchist bookstore in the Villa Crespo district under the name Mártires de Chicago ( Spanish for martyrs of Chicago ) - in memory of the workers who demonstrated for the eight-hour day who were shot in the Haymarket Riot in Chicago , Illinois in 1886 - founded. The association, also known by the nickname El Bicho , was founded on August 15, 1904 in the La Paternal district.
After the introduction of the Argentine professional league in 1931, the club remained in the top division until 1937, but then had to relegate. From 1938 to 1955 Argentinos Juniors played in the 2nd league, then the championship title and thus the promotion could be achieved. Since 1956 the club has been represented in the Primera División except for three seasons (1996/97, 2002/03 and 2003/04).
The most successful times of the Argentinos Juniors were the years 1984, 1985 and 1986, in which two championship titles as well as the Copa Libertadores and Copa Interamericana were won. Only in 2010 was another title won with the Clausura .
