Saturday 9th August
- German Empire : Friedrich Bergius applies for a patent for a process for " liquefying coal ". This method for the hydrogenation of coal is the cornerstone for the later Bergius-Pier process .
- Oxford / United Kingdom : In its 27th session, the Institut de Droit international adopts a contract called Manuel des lois de la guerre maritime (“The rules of naval warfare”), which is partly known as the Oxford Manual and contains regulations on naval warfare. For the most part, it is a summary of the rules that are already in force through several of the Hague Conventions of 1907.
- Lübeck / German Empire: Kaiser Wilhelm II visits the city. Together with Mayor Johann Georg Eschenburg he walks in front of the Lübeck main station , in which the court train of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Had previously entered, the honorary formation of the infantry regiment "Lübeck" (3rd Hanseatic table) No. 162 , which had set up to receive it . At the end of the pacing, the regimental commander , Colonel Otto von Koppelow , and the brigade commander, Major General Curt von Morgen , of the 81st Infantry Brigade, follow at a distance . The latter filed after the Emperor as the highest-ranking officer report .
Sunday 10th August
- Bucharest / Romania : In view of the hostile superiority, Tsarist Bulgaria signs the treaty for the peace of Bucharest . This ends the Second Balkan War . In addition, the country must bury the dream of a state within the limits of the peace of San Stefano and cede large areas.
Tuesday, August 12th
- Mukrena / German Empire : The first iron boat is launched in the Karl-Grieseler-Werft .
- Canada : The Austrian mountaineer Konrad Kain , together with Albert MacCarthy and William Wasbrough Foster, reached the summit of Mount Robson , the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies , where he spoke the legendary words: " Gentleman, I can't take you further than this ". However, it has not been proven whether this is a first ascent.
Thursday August 14th
- Isles of Scilly / United Kingdom : The full ship sailing under the German flag , d. H. a sailing ship with three rigged masts, Susanna runs aground. The ship, built by the Blohm + Voss shipyard , had been in operation since 1892.
- Montevideo / Uruguay : Delmira Agustini , one of the greatest Latin American poets of the early 20th century, haired Enrique Job Reyes. But she left him two months later and divorced him shortly afterwards. On July 6, 1914, Reyes killed Agustini with two shots in the head and then committed suicide.
Tuesday 19th August
- France : Adolphe Pégoud becomes the first pilot in the history of aviation to successfully parachute out of an airplane.
- German Empire : Max Ullmann patents the flat printing process in patent specification number 287214 : manual printing .
- Austria-Hungary : Heinrich Stefan Peschka patents a process that should enable both sound and color recordings in film. However, it is not implemented as a result, because it can make sound recordings on the filmstrip, but cannot guarantee the synchronicity of image and sound.
Thursday, August 21
- Bilbao / Spain : The San Mamés Stadium , home of Athletic Bilbao , will open with a game against Racing de Irún . The 1: 0 shoots Pichichi , in whose honor a bust will be erected under the roof of the main stand after his death (final score 1: 1).
- Paris / France : Oscar Egg covers a distance of 43,525 km on his racing bike in one hour, setting a new hourly world record . Marcel Berthet sets the record on November 20th of the same year.
Tuesday, August 26th
- Berlin / German Empire : On the occasion of the opening of the underground line to Dahlem , the square previously known as Rastatter Platz will be renamed Breitenbachplatz . It is named after the Prussian Minister for Public Works Paul von Breitenbach, who was present at the opening .
- Heidelberg / German Empire: The astronomer Franz Kaiser discovers the asteroid of the main belt (759) Vinifera . He names it after Vitis vinifera , the Latin name for the grapevine.
Wednesday, August 27th
- Bydgoszcz / German Empire : Paul Mitzlaff , mayor of the city since August 15, 1910, receives the mayor's gold chain.
- Seggebruch / German Empire: The new church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish is inaugurated.
- Russia : Pyotr Nikolajewitsch Nesterow is the first pilot to manage a loop . This made the Russian pilot famous overnight.
Friday 29th August
- Netherlands : Pieter Cort van der Linden replaces Theo Heemskerk as Dutch Prime Minister and also becomes Minister of the Interior. He remains in office until September 9, 1918.
