Daily events
Wednesday October 1st
- Torreón / Mexico : After three days of fighting, the battle for Torreón ends on September 29 with a victory for the rebels led by Pancho Villa . With great relief, which later turned into praise and admiration, many city dwellers, but especially the US consulate, accepted the disciplined manner in which Villa’s troops took possession of the city. With a few exceptions, there is no looting, rioting or attack on US property. The captured soldiers of the federal army are also spared. Their officers and all Orozquistas who were captured, however, executed the victors.
- Rendsburg / German Empire : The Rendsburg High Bridge , a railroad - bridge over the Kiel Canal is released.
- Austria-Hungary : There are red-white-red stripes on the wing tips, rudder and fuselage to mark the Austro-Hungarian military aircraft .
Thursday October 2nd
- London / United Kingdom : The First International Syndicalist Congress , which has been in session since September 27, in Holborn Town Hall, ends. In addition to the Free Association of German Trade Unions , which was represented by Karl Roche , Carl Windhoff and Fritz Kater , British, Swedish, Danish, Dutch, Belgian, French, Spanish, Italian, Cuban, Brazilian and Argentinian groups sent delegates to London. There were also connections with Norwegian, Polish and American organizations.
- United Kingdom: The Orduna , an ocean liner built for passenger and freight traffic from Liverpool to South America by the British shipping company Pacific Steam Navigation Company , is launched.
Friday 3rd October
- Cuba : Former President of the Dominican Republic , Adolfo Alejandro Nouel , is appointed Apostolic Delegate . He held this office until 1915 .
- Berlin / German Empire : The film Die Insel der Seligen , directed by Max Reinhardt for the Projektions-AG Union (PAGU) company, premieres at the opening of the UT cinema on Kurfürstendamm . The event is advertised as a "Reinhardt premiere".
Tuesday October 7th
- United Kingdom : The Netherlands 2 , a since 1 August 1902 active British submarine of the Holland class is provided by off-duty.
- Kamina / German Colony Togo : State Secretary Wilhelm Solf and Togo's Governor, Duke of Mecklenburg pay a visit to the Kamina radio station . The German company Telefunken has been planning and building the station on behalf of the German government since 1911 .
Wednesday October 8th
- Grytviken / South Georgia : Solveig Gunbjørg Jacobsen is the first child to be born in Antarctica .
Thursday October 9th
- North Atlantic : The British passenger ship Volturno is on its way from Rotterdam to New York when a fire breaks out due to a passenger's discarded cigarette and the ship catches fire. 136 passengers and crew members die. Ships called by wireless telegraph can save over 400 people and prevent an even greater disaster.
- Berlin-Waidmannslust / German Empire The Queen Luise Church , a neo-Gothic church, is inaugurated. It consists of Rüdersdorfer limestones and clinker stones from Rathenow .
Saturday 18th October
- Leipzig / German Empire : The Völkerschlachtdenkmal , designed by the Berlin architect Bruno Schmitz , will be inaugurated on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the Völkerschlacht near Leipzig . Among others, Kaiser Wilhelm II , King Friedrich August of Saxony , King Ludwig of Bavaria and Archduke Ferdinand of Austria will attend the celebrations.
- Swakopmund / Namibia : 126 students start operations in the Namib High School . The NHS is the city's first formal educational institution.
Tuesday October 21
- German Empire : The Węgliniec – Czerwona Woda railway is put into operation in accordance with the Prussian Kleinbahngesetz and connects Kohlfurt and Rothwasser .
Wednesday October 22nd
- German Empire : The submarine of the Imperial Navy U 21 is put into service. It sank several enemy warships during the First World War.
- Waldenburg / German Empire: In the railway accident in Waldenburg , an escaped freight car collides with a train on the Waldenburg tram . 14 people die in the process.
- Ameugny / France : The Romanesque parish church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption is added to the list of architectural monuments ( Monument historique ).
Wednesday October 29th
- Frankfurt am Main / German Empire : The Bund Deutscher Landschaftsarchitekten is founded as the Bund Deutscher Gartenarchitekten ( BDGA ).
- United Kingdom : The HMS E9 , a submarine of the E-Class of the British Royal Navy , is launched. During the First World War it will be used in both the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.
- United States : Edwin Howard Armstrong files a patent for the Audion circuit. It is given the number US1113149 .
