August von Kluckhohn (born July 6, 1832 in Bavenhausen , municipality of Kalletal , † May 19, 1893 in Munich ) was a German historian .

Life

Von Kluckhohn studied history in Heidelberg under Ludwig Häusser and in Göttingen under Georg Waitz . He qualified as a lecturer in history in Heidelberg in 1858 and moved to Munich in the autumn of the same year to take over the editing of the critical section of Heinrich von Sybel's historical journal . Then von Kluckhohn joined the historical commission, first with the Reichstag files, then with the publication of the Wittelsbach correspondence , from which he published the letters of Frederick the Pious, Elector of the Palatinate (Braunschweig 1868–72, 2 vols.) .

After von Kluckhohn completed his habilitation as a lecturer in history at the University of Munich in 1860 , he became an associate professor in 1865 and went to the technical college as a full professor in 1869 , while he continued to work at the university as an honorary professor .

He also became a member of the Academy of Sciences and the Historical Commission. In 1883 he was appointed full professor of history in Göttingen. Kluckhohn was married to Pauline Kluckhohn, b. Stallforth (1848–1923) from Bremen. In 1884 his son Wilhelm Kluckhohn (the father of the art historian Erwin Kluckhohn ) was born in Göttingen , in 1886 his son Paul Kluckhohn . In 1892 Kluckhohn was elected a full member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences .
