Augustusweg (Radebeul)

The Augustusweg is an inner-city street in the Saxon city of Radebeul , in the districts of Serkowitz and Oberlößnitz . It represents the connection between the most important longitudinal axis of Radebeul, Meißner Straße at the level of the Lößnitzgrund , and the neighboring city of Dresden ( Junge Heide ). The Augustusweg, about 2.3 kilometers long in Radebeul, is part of an old road , the eponymous ecclesiastical path between Meißen and Stolpen (see Dresdner Heide #Bischofsweg and Augustusweg ).

In Dresden and Boxdorf , the Augustusweg continues as a road until it continues again in Dresden as a forest path, is interrupted by the motorway south of the Dresden-Hellerau interchange, then crosses the B170 and continues eastwards.

The Radebeuler Augustusweg, together with Bennostraße and Weinbergstraße , is mentioned in the Dehio manual as an example of the old cultural landscape of mansions on the slope and pleasure houses above the steep vineyards, which were created by the medieval vineyards of the Dresden and Meißnian nobility as well as in modern times Succession by wealthy citizens arose.

The numbering of the house addresses begins on Meißner Strasse on the east side of the street, i. H. From there the numbers 1 to 105 run on the right side of the street, on the left side of the street it goes to number 114, number 116 was also built on until 1988 with the Augustenhaus , but has now been cleared.

From no. 44 (Villa Sommer) the north side of the Augustusweg with all even-numbered properties belongs to the historic vineyard landscape of Radebeul ; There is also there, the conservation area Lößnitz . The vineyards above the Augustusweg belong to the Radebeuler Goldener Wagen location .

The Oberlößnitz elementary school is located at Augustusweg 42 , and the “Wach'sche Villa” living area of the children's arche Saxony is located in the Villa Wach (No. 62) , which was a listed building during the GDR era .

Worry-free house was listed as an art monument in Dehio's rapid inventory in 1905 , and the Wach villa was also described in Gurlitt's 1904 monument inventory . During the GDR era, the ensemble consisting of Bennoschlösschen (Bennostraße 35) and Haus Steinbach (Bennostraße 41) as well as the neighboring house Sorgenfrei (Augustusweg 48) was considered a monument to cultural history .

Naming

The name Augustusweg has been used for this ecclesiastical official route since at least 1624. From 1897 to 1934 the Oberlößnitz part was called Schulstraße because of the adjacent Oberlößnitz school (No. 42). The Serkowitz part of the street was named Obere Hauptstraße in 1897 , but it was rededicated to Arndtstraße in 1905 because of the incorporation of Serkowitz into Alt-Radebeul .

In 1934, with the incorporation of Oberlößnitz to Radebeul , both parts of the street were given the name Augustusweg, which was valid until the 19th century .
