Namesake
- Since 2000, an asteroid discovered in 1990 has been named after Joseph Ratzinger, after he opened the Vatican archives for science as a cardinal . The asteroid Ratzinger is one of the innumerable mini planets orbiting the sun between Mars and Jupiter .

- 2015 Benedict XVI Center for Religion and Society at St Mary's University, Twickenham in London for interdisciplinary research in the fields of religion and social science. The name was approved by the Vatican in February 2016.
Others
On the 80th birthday of Pope Benedict XVI. The Federal Republic of Germany made - for the first time since reunification - an exception to the rule that, with the exception of the head of state, no living personalities are depicted on postage stamps, and in April 2007 issued a special stamp with his image and coat of arms.
