Bingham is centrally located in Somerset County. The Kennebec River forms the western limit of the area of the town. There are only smaller lakes in the area of the town. The surface is slightly hilly, the 462 m high Johnson Mountain is the highest point.

history
The first settlers settled in Bingham in 1784. In 1801 the area was surveyed by Philip Bullen. The area was named Township No. 1, First Range Bingham's Kennebec Purchase, East of Kennebec River (T1 R1 BKP EKR) . Bingham was part of the Carratunk Settlement together with Moscow and parts of Solon.
On February 6, 1812, the area was organized as a town and named after William Bingham , who owned large parts of the area through the Bingham Purchase .
