history
The constituency was number 12 of the Lower Saxony constituencies in the 1949 federal election. For the Bundestag elections from 1953 to 1961 it was number 34, from the Bundestag election in 1965 it was number 29 and in 2009 it was number 35. Since 2013 it has been number 34. In the Bundestag elections from 1949 up to and including 1961, the constituency was Verden - Rotenburg - Osterholz , then Verden and since the federal election in 1987 Verden - Osterholz .
The constituency originally comprised the districts of Verden, Osterholz and Rotenburg (Hanover) (from 1969: Rotenburg (Wümme)). Although the municipalities of Bahlum , Riede and Thedinghausen and the former municipalities of Ahsen-Oetzen and Hülsen were added to the Verden district as early as 1972 during the district reform in Lower Saxony , they only became part of the Verden constituency after the 1976 federal election. Before the federal election in 1980, the constituency had to surrender the area of the former Rotenburg district to the new federal constituency of Soltau - Rotenburg .
In the course of the reorganization of the constituencies before the federal election in 2002, the constituency was dissolved and the constituency area was divided into the newly created constituencies Cuxhaven - Osterholz and Rotenburg - Verden . This was reversed for the 2009 Bundestag election, since then it has again included the area of the two districts of Verden and Osterholz under the name Osterholz - Verden .
