About this picture

Emtinghausen ( Low German Emhusen ) is a Lower Saxony municipality with around 1500 inhabitants, which is part of the district of Verden, part of the Thedinghausen municipality . It is made up of the main town of Emtinghausen and the town of Bahlum, which was incorporated in 1972 .

geography

The place extends between the sphere of influence of the Weser river lowlands and the beginning of the Syker Geest . The municipality has a north-south extension of about 7.2 kilometers, while it measures 4.8 kilometers at its widest point from east to west. It is dominated by agricultural land. Contiguous forest areas only exist on the north-western boundary of the municipality (21.2 ha ), in the south in the Willenbruch district (26.5 ha) and at the Bahlum restaurant "Waldschänke" (6.7 ha). The core area of the village of Emtinghausen lies like a wedge in a V-shaped break landscape , in which the municipality with its eastern third also has a share. This break spans with Süstedt as the southern starting point between Schwarme and Thedinghausen on the one hand and Riede , Okel , Wachendorf and Gödestorf on the other.

Emtinghausen's best-known river is the Eiter , which forms the eastern municipal boundary over a length of 5.2 kilometers. Its left tributary, Kleine Eiter, has its source in the south of the village and flows - also partially forming the border - 5.8 kilometers through the community. Apart from larger and often named drainage ditches, the Blankenwaters Wiesengraben (initially called Imhorstgraben and Herrenkampgraben) should also be mentioned, which also rises in the south of the municipality and this, mainly the district of Bahlum, extends over a length of 4.6 kilometers to the north flows through. In the south, the municipality is also limited to 1.1 kilometers by the Süstedter Bach . In parallel to this, the Bahlumer Bach flows for three kilometers through the municipality. The only noteworthy still waters in the municipality are two small lakes in the angle between Syker Straße and Geersstraße (district Emtinghausen) and in the angle between Imhorstgraben and Herrenkampgraben (district Bahlum).

In June 2015, the area was divided as follows:

history

During construction work on the Alter Postel street, some finds from an urn cemetery from the Bronze Age were discovered , which prove that people were already settling in the area of today's municipality at that time. The first systematic settlements can be traced back to the 7th century. They originated on the slightly elevated valley sands in the area of today's Eyterdeich , where they were comparatively safe from regular flooding.

From around 1100 there was a settlement advance into higher parts of the municipality. By clearing the heather landscape, which was then overgrown with bushes, and the more humid fractures , a loose scattered single-farm settlement was created , which was in contrast to the previous form of the row village . The new courtyards were partly built on small, heaped-up elevations or sausages and can be described as "single courtyard fighting settlements" (because of the fight against nature). Like Bahlum, the village probably emerged as a late medieval settlement on behalf of the Archbishop of Bremen . In addition to the old farmers, tax-paying plowers and handkotters were also allowed to settle . The first written mention of the place as Emetinghusen dates from 1260. The name is commonly interpreted as "House on the Emte", which indicates an earlier tributary of the Weser .

As part of the Peace of Westphalia of 1648, the Swedish Empire acquired, among other things, the administratively united duchies of Bremen-Verden and thus Emtinghausen. Now Brinksitzer were also admitted to the settlement. The Emtinghauser Höfe were subject to the Thedinghausen Office , the Heiligenberg Monastery , the Lunsen Church and aristocratic landlords. Following the Bremen-Verden campaign , Emtinghausen and the other localities of the Thedinghausen Office came into the possession of the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel in 1679 as a result of the Celle Peace Treaty - negotiated between the Swedish Empire and the Principality of Lüneburg . Between 1772 and 1800 the community of Neudorf was established between Emtinghausen and Bahlum. It was a settlement with 25 cultivation sites. It was dissolved again in 1850 and divided between Emtinghausen and Bahlum. Extensive couplings of and the amelioration of Eyterbruches led in the 18th and 19th centuries in a significant increase in fertile pastures and farmland.

At the beginning of the 20th century, structural development in today's town center increased at the intersection of Syker Strasse and Bremer Strasse. The geographical proximity to Bremen and increasing mobility led to a further development of the place, which became particularly noticeable after 1945 through the increasing number of residential buildings. In July 1972, as part of a community reform, several administrative changes were made: On July 1, Bahlum was incorporated into Emtinghausen as a locality and, together with the other communities of the Thedinghausen office, Emtinghausen was separated from the Braunschweig district and assigned to the redesigned Verden district . Through the amalgamation of five member communities, including Emtinghausen, the Thedinghausen community was created on July 21st .
