Cameron Brown , ONZM (born June 20, 1972 in Auckland ) is a New Zealand triathlete . He became vice world champion in the juniors (1992) and is a multiple Ironman winner. He is on the best list of New Zealand triathletes on the Ironman distance .
Career
Cameron Brown studied at Pakuranga College in Auckland. In the summer of 1987 he started his first triathlon in Devonport.
Brown achieved his first international success in 1992 at the World Triathlon Championships in Canada, where he finished second and won the world title in the team standings together with Paul Amey and Bryan Rhodes . He has been competing in the elite class since 1993.
Second Ironman World Championships 2001
In 2001 and again in 2005 Brown was vice world champion at the Ironman in Hawaii and he has already won bronze medals there twice.
Another highlight was winning the Ironman Germany in Frankfurt am Main in 2006 .
In June 2014 - just two weeks before his 42nd birthday - he won the gold medal in Australia at the Ironman Cairns as the oldest athlete and set a new course record there with 8:20:14 h.
14th Ironman victory as a 43-year-old in 2016
In March 2016, the then 43-year-old managed to beat his own record as the oldest Ironman winner of all time. To date, he has won the Ironman New Zealand twelve times in his home country. His compatriot Joanna Lawn can already look back on seven victories there in the women.
At the end of 2016 he was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) for his successes . In March 2017 he finished second in Taupo.
In April 2018 the 45-year-old was able to successfully defend his title from the previous year at the Strongman All Japan Triathlon and won the title for the second time in Miyako-jima after 7:52:06 h. In March 2020 he finished sixth in the Ironman New Zealand.
Cameron Brown is married and lives in Auckland with his wife and two children.
