Comminges (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Comminges was the most important family in the French Pyrenees from the 10th century .

Possessions and lines

The House of Comminges owned, among other things, the counties Comminges , Couserans , Carcassonne , Razès , Foix , Bigorre , and the vice counties of Béziers , Agde and Béarn . The property was mostly distributed over several lines.

The older line with Carcassonne, Béziers and Agde died out in 1067 with the death of Count Ramón Roger II . The middle line with Foix and Béarn expired at the beginning of the 15th century with the death of Countess Isabelle . The youngest line, that of the Counts of Comminges, died out in their main line in 1443 with the death of Countess Marguerite.

The last member of this youngest line and thus of the family in general was Roger II. De Comminges, baron and in 1613 Comte de Péguilhan , Vicomte de Montfaucon , who is attested in 1635.
