Craig Smith (born September 5, 1989 in Madison , Wisconsin ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Nashville Predators from the National Hockey League since July 2011 and plays for them on the position of the center .
Career
Smith began his career in 2006 with the Waterloo Black Hawks in the United States Hockey League . There he was active for three years and won the Anderson Cup with the Black Hawks in 2007 , as the best team of the regular season . He himself achieved 18 points scorer in 45 games in his rookie year . In the following years he increased his offensive production over 23 points in 2008 to 76 in the 2008/09 season. In addition to being invited to the USHL All-Star Game, this also earned him an appointment to the USHL First All-Star Team. In addition, he was selected in June 2009 in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 98th place by the Nashville Predators from the National Hockey League . For the 2009/10 season, the striker moved to college and played until the end of the 2010/11 season for the University of Wisconsin – Madison in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . There he was active as a team captain in his last season . In July 2011, Smith signed a two-year entry - level contract with the Nashville Predators and subsequently established himself in their NHL line-up. In the 2016/17 season he reached the Stanley Cup final with the team, but lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins there .
International
Smith represented his home country for the first time at the 2011 World Cup in Slovakia . There he was together with Chris Kreider one of two college players in the American squad. In his first World Cup appearance in the encounter against Austria on April 30, 2011 Smith was successful with a goal.
At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki he was again part of the national team and won the bronze medal with it. In addition, with 10 assists he was the best assists in the tournament.
