Crystal Springs is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pasco County in the US state of Florida with a population of 1,327 (as of 2010).
geography
Crystal Springs is about 20 km south of Dade City and about 35 km northeast of Tampa . The CDP is crossed by Florida State Road 39 .
history
In 1886, the Tropical Florida Railroad , a subsidiary of the Florida Railroad , opened a railway line from Ocala via Crystal Springs to Plant City . The railway line was extended to Tampa in 1890 .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 1327 inhabitants were distributed over 425 households. The population density was 92.2 inh / km². 90.8% of the population identified themselves as white , 0.9% as African-American , 0.5% as Native American and 1.2% as Asian Americans . 4.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.2% to several ethnic groups. 8.6% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 24.8% of all households lived in 35.2% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 67.1% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.70 people and the average family size was 3.22 people.
26.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 32.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 18.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 41 years. 49.4% of the population were male and 50.6% were female.
The median annual income was $ 38,000, with 31.3% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 96.50% of the population and 3.50% spoke Spanish .
