Match report

Although the defending champion competed in front of a home crowd, the Hamburg team was initially unimpressed, took the lead after a quarter of an hour through Uwe Seeler and seemed to have the game under control. However, after HSV missed a number of opportunities, the Badeners were able to equalize through Termath shortly before the break. After the change, the Karlsruhe team took the initiative, settled in half of the Hamburg team and consequently took a 2-1 lead with Bernhard Termath's second goal. The Hamburgers then apparently lacked the strength to turn the game around again, especially since Klaus Stürmer was only on the field as an extra due to an injury. In addition, HSV had bad luck when Seeler hit the post in the 85th minute - in return, the decisive goal for the 3-1 final score fell.
