The Secret Agent is a German action and adventure film from 1932 by and with Harry Piel .

action

Chemist Professor Managan invented a terrible new chemical weapon , a deadly poison gas , that could be used to wipe out humanity. The jack-of-all-trades and adventurer Harry Parker, who is in the service of an ominous society to combat and prevent a poison gas war, is dispatched to wrest the secret formula from the professor working abroad and then destroy it. Parker's journey starts spectacularly. Since the chemist lives and works far away, Parker jumps out of a plane with a parachute before the secret service of this country can arrest him. Parker does not suspect that there are already other interested parties in the poison gas formula, but who by no means intend to prevent it from being implemented, but rather intend to use it for the manufacture of special weapons if necessary. Harry, persecuted as an enemy spy by Colonel Salit, chief of intelligence in that country, receives some important information from a confidante named Bashin, known as “The Limping Man”, before this man is murdered. A little later, Harry tries to be close to Managan's daughter, the painter Ruth, in order to befriend her. He poses to her as an old college friend whom she obviously cannot remember. He intends to get to the professor in this way. Ruth immediately begins to fall in love with him. Harry hears from a police officer that the country's secret services are already looking for him.

When Harry manages to get into the chemical factory and see Prof. Managan in his laboratory, he reproaches the professor with regard to his deadly formula and, as a representative of the Society for Combating Toxic Gas Wars, tries to convince him that the scientist is the Will lead the world to the brink. Soon Prof. Managan can see with his own eyes how dangerous his formula is. When Colonel Salit appears, who is actually playing a double game and spying as an agent of a hostile power, there is a duel between Harry and Salit. When a gas bottle with the deadly contents is accidentally knocked over, the poison gas escapes unhindered and kills the villain. Finally Prof. Managan has some understanding and agrees to the destruction of his poison gas formula. Managan's daughter Ruth and Harry, the hero of the day, eventually become a couple and leave the country with Ruth's father.
