The twelfth and last German football championship before the First World War was held from May 3 to May 31, 1914. SpVgg Fürth secured the championship in the final in Berlin with a 3-2 draw against VfB Leipzig .
For Leipzig it was the sixth final participation since 1903 and the respective representative of the southern German association reached the final for the eighth time. With the outbreak of war in August 1914, gaming operations at the national level were interrupted. No German championship was to be held until 1920.
Attendees
Eight clubs, the seven champions of the regional associations and the defending champions were qualified for the final round. While the teams from Leipzig , Berlin , Karlsruhe or Kiel have dominated the finals so far, the Nuremberg / Fürth region has now entered the limelight for the first time.

Königsberg surprisingly took the lead through Max Wirth in the 25th minute , but had to accept the equalizer from Leipzig's Paul Pömpner shortly before half-time. After the break, Eduard Pendorf, Abelbert Friedrich and again Paul Pömpner increased to 4: 1 for VfB Leipzig by the 81st minute.
The SpVgg Leipzig led after 36 minutes with a goal from Gerhard Schulz with 1-0. In the 52nd minute the Hungarian Frigyes Weicz equalized and in the 83rd minute Karl Franz scored the 2-1 winner for Fürth.
Berlin was already leading 3-0 after 25 minutes with goals from Erich Arndt , Willi Hebler and Preuss. In the second half, Erich Arndt scored the 4-0 final score with his second goal. The captain of the Berliners was the later internationally known referee Alfred Birlem .
Between Duisburg and Altona it was 1: 1 after 90 minutes with goals from Heinz Schipporeit in the 48th minute and Walter Fischer with a penalty in the 73rd minute. In extra time, Walter Fischer scored again in the 93rd minute , Anton Bongartz in the 97th and Mathias Blethgen in the 106th minute to make it 4-1.

The Berliners lost their defender Paul Wiesener after just 10 minutes due to a leg fracture, but led 2-0 after two goals from Preuss after 43 minutes. Just one minute later, Frigyes Weicz reduced the score to 1: 2, before he even managed to equalize in the 62nd minute. In the first extension, Karl Franz took the lead for Fürth after 103 minutes, before Preuss equalized again with his third goal in the 119th minute to 3: 3. The golden goal came via Karl Franz in the 146th minute.
In the game between VfB Leipzig and Duisburg, Johannes Völckers scored the decisive goal in a hard-fought victory after 41 minutes.

Match report
VfB Leipzig qualified for the final for the sixth time since 1903. Fürth took the lead after 17 minutes thanks to Karl Franz. Paul Michel from Leipzig was injured in the 42nd minute. Outnumbered, Leipzig managed to make it 1-1 with Eduard Pendorf in the 83rd minute. In the 104th minute Frigyes Weicz scored the 2-1 for Fürth, four minutes later Leipzig managed to equalize again through Curt Hesse. In the 138th minute, Fürth Hans Schmidt was sent off. As in the semifinals, Karl Franz scored the decisive golden goal, this time in the 153rd minute. The Fürth coach William Townley and the player Julius Hirsch became German champions for the second time since 1910.
