The Elz , also known as the Elzbach on the upper reaches , is a right tributary of the Neckar in the Neckar-Odenwald district in Baden-Württemberg and is a good 39 km long. It flows through the southeastern Odenwald from north to south . The mouth is 407 m lower than the source.

geography

course

The Elz rises in the southeastern Odenwald northwest of Mudau - Oberscheidental am Dickbuckel at an altitude of 540  m above sea level. NN . It first flows through fields and meadows in a south-easterly direction towards Oberscheidental, passes the old village center in its south-west and then curves to the north-east, in which it crosses the village of Unterscheidental. In the new direction it is already fed by the Eisengraben coming from Waldauerbach on the left , one kilometer further from this parallel rush of water . Then it reaches the Mudau district of Ober- Langenelz and now goes into another arch, in the course of which it still crosses Mittel-Langenelz and passes Unter-Langenelz, after which it runs roughly south for a long time.

At the Einbacher Mühle , the next settlement in the valley, it is already deepened over 70 m opposite the summit of the Kandelackers on your right. At the Laudenberger Schneidmühle immediately following her, the Einbach coming from the northeast from the Buchen town of the same name flows to her , below the Limbach district of Laudenberg, which lies above the wooded right valley slope, she falls in a right loop of the Laudenbach through the town, the one above the village arises in the steep corn blade .

In the following southeast loop of their valley, a larger settlement borders on the right bank for the first time with the southern district of Limbach-Scheringen; here the ditch also runs to it from the east . In the further southern course through its narrow, forested valley, the next settlement area is again only a single property , namely the Limbacher Mühle about one kilometer southeast of the eponymous capital of the municipality, which is remote from the valley. Further down the valley between the salt troughs in the east and the southern Herrenwald in the west, the valley still facing south has a short westward offset; here their water flow is strengthened by the Lautzenklinge from the northeast. From the Heidersbacher Mühle , which follows immediately, it squeezes its way through the sloping forests of the Sauheide and the Dicken Schlschlag and now reaches Elztal -Rittersbach in a conspicuous valley widening , the first valley village since Langenelz, on the northern edge of which the Guckenbach reaches it from the left. In the village, the B 27 descends from the north into the valley, but because of its narrowness it stays on the middle slope for a long time.

After Rittersbach it always strives to the southwest, first left past the Vistula Forest. Then the Muckbach feeds you from its side. In a steady direction it flows past the Herrmannsberg in the southeast, takes on the Hardsteigeklinge from opposite , then from the east the Auerbach coming from the village of the same name . This is also where the Osterburken-Neckarelz railway enters the valley and then cuts a narrow north-west loop of the valley with a tunnel under the Erstwald . After this, Elztal- Dallau , the largest village to date , spreads across the valley and the left slope , the old town center of which lies at the mouth of the Lutenbach coming from the east . In front of the southwestern settlement boundary of Dallau, the Danterquellgraben flows from a small side valley basin from the left , before the more important Trienzbach strengthens it from the north below the last industrial buildings in the valley . From now on, the valley continues and the forest hardly ever reaches down into the valley again. In Neckarburken, where the Limes line crosses the valley, the Bücheldornklinge and the Klingengraben flow to it from the north .

The Elz estuary with (from left to right) Mosbach-Neckarelz, Mosbach-Diedesheim and Obrigheim

Beyond the Mosbach city limits, the Hasbach follows in the same direction of mouth , before the Waldstadt satellite settlement on the top of the right valley hill, the Wolfgraben , then from the opposite side the stream through the Bonschelklinge , in whose outlet area the Mosbacher Johannes-Diakonie is located. The middle blade runs from the left on the northern edge of the Mosbach center , then in a side valley populated far up to the beginning of the button blade , the stream running through both of them. The largest inflow in the closer urban area, however, is the Nüstenbach am Freibad, which flows from the northern district of the same name. In the west of the Neckarelz , which is combined with the city center , the Elz finally empties at an altitude of 133  m above sea level. NN from the right into the Neckar.
