The Euro Hockey League 2008/2008 , the second season of the European Hockey Federation discharged Euro Hockey League , the most important European competition for club teams in hockey . The competition was played out in a total of four tournaments with group and knockout phases.

The winner was HC Bloemendaal , which was able to prevail in the final against last year's winner UHC Hamburg .

Experimental rules

In the Euro Hockey League, new rules are tried out again and again before they are also introduced in the national leagues and other international competitions after testing.

The self-pass was introduced in the 2008/2009 season : This means that if the player hits a free or tee-off, the player can immediately start running with the ball. In addition, free hits in the opposing quarter have been significantly defused: the ball must be taken at least five meters from the shooting circle and must be moved five meters in freely selectable directions before entering the circle. These new rules were completely incorporated into the general set of rules in 2010. In addition, the teams in EHL now have the opportunity to request video evidence. This procedure was also adopted at least in all international hockey competitions.

Preliminary round

The preliminary round, which was held as a group stage in autumn 2008, took place in two tournaments at the Dutch club Amsterdamsche Hockey and Bandy Club , as well as at the French representative Lille MHC . There were 5 points for a win, 2 points for a draw and one point for a defeat with fewer than three goals.
