The Dubrovnik Airport ( kroat. : Zračna luka Dubrovnik ) is the airport of the Croatian port city of Dubrovnik and is located 15 kilometers southeast of Dubrovnik and about four kilometers southeast of Cavtat . In 2019, more than 2.9 million passengers were handled there.
Location and transport links
The airport is located in the town of Čilipi in the Konavle - Cavtat municipality , 15 kilometers southeast of the center of Dubrovnik. The airport can be reached via the D8 national road .
There is a regular bus connection from the company Atlas Travel Agency from the central bus station in Dubrovnik with a stop near the old town to the airport (timetables are available from the tourist office and bus station). After the arrival of every scheduled and low-cost airline, the transfer bus to Dubrovnik leaves the airport and stops first in the old town and then at the bus station in Gruz harbor. The price for a single journey is 60 kuna (as of August 2018).
history
Dubrovnik Airport was opened for charter flights on May 15, 1962 and for scheduled flights on July 15, 1962.
In 1991 the airport was almost completely destroyed and looted by advancing Yugoslav-Serbian troops in the Battle of Dubrovnik . The airport was rebuilt between 1992 and 1997.
From 2005 the airport was rebuilt.
Airlines and Destinations
The Croatian airline Croatia Airlines connects the airport with the capital Zagreb and other European destinations all year round . In the summer of 2018, 60 destinations will be served by 40 airlines. In Germany, Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf, Berlin-Tegel, Berlin Schönefeld, Hamburg, Hanover, Cologne-Bonn and Stuttgart will be served by scheduled flights in summer 2018. Vienna is served in Austria and Zurich, Geneva and Basel in Switzerland. Numerous airlines fly chartered to Dubrovnik on behalf of many European tour operators. Most destinations are only served seasonally.

Incidents
On April 3, 1996, under the call sign IFO-21 , a passenger aircraft of the US Air Force crashed into a mountain while approaching Dubrovnik Airport. On board the Boeing CT-43A were the five-person aircraft crew and 30 members of a business delegation headed by the then US Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown . Only one stewardess with the rank of technical sergeant survived the immediate impact and died during the transport to the hospital.
