The Goonies (English: The Goonies ) is an American adventure film from 1985 . Directed by Richard Donner . The screenplay was written by Chris Columbus based on a story by Steven Spielberg , who was also involved in the creation as executive producer and second unit director .

action

The Goonies are a group of young people who, in search of adventure, make their city and the surrounding area unsafe. An unscrupulous real estate shark wants to buy up the children's housing estate (called Goon Docks ) and turn it into a country club , and the parents lack the money to counter the impending foreclosure.

When the Goonies - James Bond- addicted and inventive Data, the fat and clumsy chunk and the loud mouthed mouth - meet at their leader Mikey's house, they make an extraordinary discovery in the attic. Mikey's father, the archivist of the local museum , has temporarily stored exhibits there; There is also a treasure map underneath that should lead to the hiding place of the legendary one-eyed Willie , a pirate .

After first knocking out Mikey's big brother Brand, the Goonies follow the clues on the map to an abandoned summer restaurant on the beach. However, the evil Fratellis, a gangster family , have taken up residence there. After the Goonies are kicked out by the Fratellis after a first advance and Brand, whose great love Andy and their friend Stef have come to them, they dare to start again. In the basement, however, they not only discover the hidden entrance to the treasure cave, but also the criminal nature of the Fratellis.

When the Fratellis unexpectedly return, the Goonies flee into the secret passage, except for Chunk, who was separated from the group. He is supposed to get the police, but is caught and interrogated by the Fratellis. After the Fratellis have also discovered the entrance, they follow the Goonies. Chunk is locked up with Sloth , the battered and extremely disfigured son of the Fratellis. After initial fear, Chunk begins to slowly befriend Sloth and eventually they both break out and follow their friends into the caves.

In search of the treasure, the Goonies run into a series of deadly traps that Willie has constructed to protect his treasure and which they can only overcome with great effort and good luck. In addition, the Fratellis are stubbornly on their heels. Eventually they find One-Eyed Willie's pirate ship, the Inferno , and find Willie's remains and his immense treasures on board. But immediately afterwards the Fratellis catch up with them and force them to get rid of the prey and then to walk over the plank .

But before the worst happens, Sloth and Chunk save the Goonies. While the teens save themselves on the bank, the Fratellis try to load themselves with treasure, but become too greedy and set off one last trap that brings the cave to collapse. The Goonies and also the Fratellis manage to escape through a hole from the cave to the nearby beach, where they are picked up by police officers, reporters and their parents, who have been desperately looking for them. The Fratellis are arrested except for Sloth, whom the children defend.

Without the treasure, it looks like the Goon Docks are lost forever. But before Mikey's father signs the handover statement for the settlement, the Walshs housekeeper finds gems in Mikey's marble pouch that the Fratellis had overlooked, and the foreclosure is canceled. And when the Goonies rejoice in their triumph with Sloth, everyone present sees the inferno , which was freed by the collapse of the cave, sail away into the sunset.
