Haines & Grut Motor Buggy Co. Ltd was an Australian manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Partners CW Kellow and Howard Lewis ran the Melbourne company in the 1890s . They imported automobiles and made some motorcycles . Lewis left the company in 1907 and moved to Tarrant Motor & Engineering Company . Tommy Haines replaced him. Peter J. Grut later also joined the company. In 1908 they started producing automobiles. The brand name was Haines & Grut . Automobile production ended in 1909. A total of five vehicles were built.

Almost all parts were made in Australia. Only the hickory wood for the rims came from the USA and the carburetor from Lônguemare from France . The water-cooled two - cylinder engine with 10 hp was obtained from a local company. The vehicles were similar to the American Holsman .
