Hartnett Motor Company Ltd was an Australian manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Lawrence Hartnett, who previously worked for Holden , founded the company in Melbourne in 1949 or 1951 . In the same year the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Hartnett , also known as Hartnett-Grégoire . The plan was to produce 10,000 vehicles a year. Production initially ended in 1955. Between 1957 and 1962, vehicles were built again, which were now marketed as Lloyd-Hartnett .

In the early 1960s, Lawrence Hartnett became aware of the Nissan brand , took over sales in Australia and began assembling the Bluebird for the Australian market in 1966 by the Sydney- based Pressed Metal Corporation .

Hartnett had taken over the license rights to a small car from Jean-Albert Grégoire through Kendall . An air-cooled two-cylinder engine with a displacement of 600 cm³ drove the front wheels. The body variant most frequently produced was the Vanette , a station wagon whose structure was partly made of wood . There were also roadsters , sedans and touring cars . A total of 120 vehicles were built.

Hartnett also had the license for the Grégoire R , but did not use it.

Brand name Lloyd-Hartnett

From December 1957 Hartnett produced the Lloyd-Hartnett. He obtained parts from Lloyd . At least the Lloyd 600 has been handed down. Its two-cylinder engine with a displacement of 600 cm³ drove the front wheels. Around 3000 vehicles were built by 1962.
