Finlayson Bros & Co Pty Ltd was an Australian manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The Devonport company was a foundry . In 1900 a steam car was built for personal use. From 1904 two more cars followed. The brand name was Finlayson . The company also produced six buses . Motor vehicle production ended in 1910.

The first vehicle was a steam car. A steam engine with two cylinders developed 6 hp . The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a chain. The open body offered space for four people. The maximum speed was given as 32 km / h. This vehicle has been preserved. It was restored in the 1960s and led the motorcade when the Tasman Bridge opened in 1964 .

In 1904, a larger vehicle with an imported two-cylinder engine with 9 hp output followed and was sold.

The third car was a four-seater with a two-cylinder engine.

The buses had a Gnome et Rhône engine . Tasmanian transport companies bought them.
