The Thomson Motor Car Company Ltd was an Australian manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Herbert Thomson from Armadale near Melbourne developed a steam car from 1895 , which made its first journey in 1896 or 1898. In 1899 or 1900 he founded the company and began producing automobiles. The brand name was Thomson . Although he received 150 orders, he only made twelve vehicles. The Melbourne Fire Brigade , Melbourne Post Office and Tamworth Shire Council each accepted two vehicles. The remaining six vehicles went to private buyers. Production ended in 1904.

Steam cars were on offer. In the prototype the steam engine developed 5 HP , in the series version with two cylinders 10 HP. The vehicles offered space for four people, face-to- face with the prototype .
