The Australian Six was a brand of car manufactured in Australia from 1919 .

description

The car was an attempt to compete against the cars imported from the United States and was made from various imported and domestic parts. The cars had a separate chassis and there were five different bodies that were manufactured in Australia under the motto “Made in Australia, by Australians, for Australia”. Most models were powered by a US 6-cylinder Rutenber engine. The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via transmissions from Grand Lees or Muncie . But there were also engines from Ansted used. Until 1918 the factory in Sydney Harbor ( New South Wales ), then she moved to Ashfield (New South Wales) to where they remained until 1924th After producing around 500 cars, the company had to close because the costs of in-house construction were too high. The last cars were built in 1926 by the rental car company Harkness and Hillier in Sydney .

16 Australian Six have survived to this day, one of them in the automobile collection of the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney.

In 1984, the Australian Six was honored with a stamp issued by the Australian Post as part of a series of five brands of Australian automobiles.
