Nota Sports and Racing Cars , previously Nota Engineering Company , is an Australian automobile manufacturer based in Dural, New South Wales . The company was founded in 1952 by Guy Buckingham and was initially based in Parramatta .

history

Buckingham was an aircraft engineer and used his skills to build lattice-framed sports cars , probably the first cars with this frame design in Australia. In 1958 the company produced a series of aerodynamically shaped sports cars clad in aluminum. At first these cars were called Streamliner , later Mazengarb . Eleven of these vehicles were built by 1960. At the end of the 1950s, the company also manufactured racing cars for Formula Junior . 1963 began with the construction of sports cars based on the Mini . From 1964 the Sapphire was built. In 1965 the production of racing cars for Formula V started . The Sportsman , a Lotus 7 clone, appeared in the 1960s. In 1968 the catch came , the most successful model, of which over 100 pieces were built. In 1973, Nota started building the Marauder series . The mechanics of the Marauder initially corresponded to those of the Fang, but in 1974 the Levanti came out with a front engine. In 1975 Leyland stopped supplying 1275 GT engines and Nota contacted Fiat . Since then, the Marauder and Fang models have been supplied with 2.0-liter twin-camshaft engines from Lancia .

In the late 1970s, Nota released an all-wheel drive Marauder with a 5752cc V8 from Ford , but Ford stopped shipping these engines to Australia in the 1980s. After a trip to England, Buckingham formed a team that constructed a Muzzle with a 3.0-liter V6 Formula 1 engine with four camshafts, which, like the comparable Chimera , was fully disguised. In 2003, the Le Mans appeared , which was powered by a 1.3-liter inline four-cylinder engine from the Suzuki GTi or a 1.1-liter engine from a Suzuki motorcycle. For use on the road, the car could also be equipped with a 1.8-liter Toyota engine with a six-speed gearbox or a 3.0-liter V6 engine with four camshafts.
