Campbell's Cycle Works was an Australian manufacturer of bicycles , motorcycles and automobiles .

Company history

The Hobart company originally made bicycles. In 1900, the production of automobiles began under the direction of Archibald Campbell. The brand name was Campbell . Production ended in 1912. A total of three vehicles were built, one of which was sold.

Automobiles

The first vehicle was built in 1900 or 1901. This was a steam car . The steam engine with two cylinders developed 7 hp . The open body in dos-à-dos shape offered space for four people.

Around 1906 a vehicle with a gasoline engine was created . Fuel was naphtha .

The last vehicle is dated around 1912. This was a light two-seater with an electric motor .

In April 1904 Archibald Campbell won a race in one of his cars against a locomotive en route from Launceston to Hobart. He needed 400 minutes for the 170 km, which corresponds to an average of 25.5 km / h.
